TOURtech’s Mobile NOC Creates a Wireless Backbone for Serious Business Connectivity At The Nations Most Notorious Music Festival
Raleigh, NC August 12, 2013 – When event production pros, C3 Presents, wanted to connect hundreds of vendors, artists, VIPs, and support staff across more than 250 acres of wooded outdoor terrain in an urban area with 100,000 fans, they knew of only one company to call.
To address the needs in such a wide area, TOURtech deployed its UR Connected™ Foundation solution with an Advanced Network Operations Center (NOC). To the layman, that means a touring production trailer owned by TOURtech that is equipped with all the computing and networking gear needed to build, manage, and monitor a temporary network of this scale.
Close coordination with Business Only Broadband, a local ISP, allowed TOURtech to utilize their backbone to pass festival network traffic to primary zones. Point-to-multi-point backbone Access Points were then used to distribute signal to individual connectivity locations across the entire park. “We have become really familiar with Business Only Broadband’s high speed network over the years,” said Al Cook, CEO of TOURtech, “and they consistently provide reliable connectivity and exceptional service.” TOURtech and Business Only Broadband were able to provide the festival with redundant connections from multiple Points-of-Presence to ensure a zero downtime experience.
Hanson Ling, IT Manager at C3 Presents, offered “Every year we are seeing more and more demands for stable connectivity on site; everything from VIP Wi-Fi for the artists to ticket scanning, to ATM machines. And, in our experience of producing this festival and several other majors, this was the fastest deployment and best Internet connectivity we’ve seen”.
As a result of providing a stable, robust network, Lollapalooza’s merchandise sales experienced a 152% growth year over year in 2012 after TOURtech converted their credit card terminals from dial-up to direct network connections. Transaction times on TOURtech’s IP network were 84% faster – allowing more people to move through shorter lines in less time. TOURtech estimates that more than 450 Gigabytes of data were transferred across the network over the course of the event.
TOURtech is the market leader in providing temporary network solutions for the events industry. We specialize in high-profile projects where connectivity is no longer a “nice-to-have” option and the challenges to delivering service are many.
